We don’t have a single way of approaching a design problem” Harry says.”It varies according to the specific challenges of the project. In this case, it was very structured because of the complexity and number of people involved. In my experience, brainstorming with the design team is very useful, provided that the problem we had to solve as group Is well defined. A well-defined problem leaves as much room as possible fro experimentation in the expression of a solution but with a clear understanding of the project goals. Of course collaboration also engenders a positive team spirit. The relative complexity of this project did impose some creative constraints, but that was all part of the fun.
“An open brief is quite a challenge in it self. The goal was to turn a straightforward moving announcement to something else, something odd”, says designer Harry Macheras. The creative strategy behind our annual design for ADAF festival was to present the reader with something familiar but unusual – to recreate a 1980 aesthetic to suit the concept, carried through to the illustration style.
